Hello. I am L Kieler. I am the old one in this course. I have taught in an elementary school setting for 22 years. Currently I am working on my graduate degrees. My area is Curriculum and Instruction with a focus of Gifted Education. I am the Elementary Coordinator for my district and I also teach 5 grades of Gifted pull-out classes. I am married with one son who is fixing (with the help of every finger crossed and every prayer uttered) to graduate from Texas State University with his undergraduate degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry.
Hi. I am Anita Vyas. Originally from India I did a Masters in Communication from India, turned Graphic Designer for a couple of years, turned full-time mom to two lovely boys (5 & 3). Now after a gap of 5 years of stay-at-home mom duties, I have embarked on a challenging yet exciting path to a Doctorate in Instructional Technology. This is my second semester. I love taking pictures, writing, painting, scrapbooking or any art related stuff, messing around with Photoshop, cooking authentic Indian food, and ofcourse learning new things. I am very excited about this course as Digital Storytelling is completely new for me. See ya all Saturday.
Hello everyone, my name is Shawn McCombs and I am very excited about this semester. I’ve been working on my Doctorate for a few years now (informally at first) but have gotten somewhat serious about it last year. I’m also looking forward to our work this semester - I think Digital Storytelling – and the dissemination of such material 0 is incredibly interesting, and I’m hoping to learn a great deal more about it this coming semester.
I’m very grateful for the experiences I’ve had so far – I’m very lucky in that I have been working with Dr. Robin since 2001, when I was a Masters student and he was my advisor. It was my Masters work that sparked a major interest in the field, and it was my work with Dr. Robin that solidified my passion for the field.
Another think that I’m really excited about is the opportunity this semester will give us to have intelligent conversations about Digital Storytelling in Education - and more specifically, about the current, new EUODS website; having worked on this project for some time now, I think it will be a great exercise to engage in worthwhile discourse behind a common goal.
So good luck to everyone this semester; See you guys soon (in real time or virtually). :)

Hi I am Leon from Taiwan. Before I came here for my doctoral study, I had been a teacher in k12 education for several years and also particularly interested in educational use of video or photos.
After taking the hands-on digital storytelling course last semester, I eager to delve into the realm of educational use of digital storytelling, trying to find out how to integrate my previous knowledge with current issue. By taking this course and discussing with all of you, this will be a terrific class for me.
Hi! I'm Jennifer Nguyen. I currently hold a Clinical Associate Professor of Anesthesiology at Baylor College of Medicine. I consider myself very fortunate to be able to pursue another degree at this stage of my career. I will hopefully graduate with a Master's of Education-Curriculum and Design this summer. Dr. Robin's leadership for this program in the medical center has allowed many clinicians like myself the opportunity to pursue this degree and make this opportunity much more attainable for many physician educators. I'm looking forward to another great semester.
Hello,
I'm Anh Nguyen from Vietnam. I'm a doctoral student of CUIN with emphasis on IT. This is my third semester in the program. I have attended the other course of Dr. Robin, Educational Uses of Digital Storytelling, which offered hands-on skills of creating a digital story and I have gained interesting and useful knowledge and experience from it. So I'm looking forwards to taking this course as an inevitable extension of what I have learned in the sense that it would open my view on how DS is applied in various contexts of education all over the world.
Hi all I am Christina Crawford and I a work on my masters in science education. This is my last semester and to tell the truth i have no idea what digital story telling is so I am going to be the one asking all the questions you all may think is to simple to say. However my advsior so this would be a great technology class for me to take in order to finish up so here I am. I sure this class will be very interesting
Hello! I am Lauren Montesi, and I am finishing up my last semester in the M.Ed.(Medical Center) program. I recently left my job at Baylor where I worked as a psychometrician to be a full-time mom. I'd like to transition into teaching after I graduate. I've taken several technology courses in the program and found them to be very useful; so, I'm really looking forward to learning more this semester.
Christina,
I hope that you will learn more about digital storytelling as you explore the EUODS website and read some of the articles about DS as part of the reading assignments.
However, perhaps we could also have an optional hands-on session on creating your own digital story before or after our next optional face-to-face session in February. I think it's great to read about DS and see the stories that others have created, but doing it yourself provides a much more personal experience.
What does everyone think of this idea?
That sounds like a wonderful idea, Dr. Robin. I think it would be an exciting experience for all to create a digital story besides learning about its educational uses.
As long as it is optional. I don't want to create one right now. I KNOW how labor intensive they can be.... I will look at all of yours and offer my opinion.....hows that?
Hello, I am Tatiana and I am a registered dental hygienist in a public health clinic. I am in my last semester in the MEd program in the medical center. Currently, I supervise and help close the gap between school and private practice to 2nd year dental hygiene students. One day, I hope to teach at UTDB at the school of dental hygiene.
Also, I am President of the Greater Houston Hispanice Dental Association and I serve as a board of trustee on the national level.
Some of my hobbies are traveling, dancing, watching theatre, and spending time with friends and family.
Hi, my name is Deidre Davis. I am in my final year of psychiatry residency at Baylor College of Medicine, and in my final semester of the Medical Center Master's program. I hope to go on to a medical school faculty position.
I am lucky enough to have had several previous courses from Dr. Robin, and have really enjoyed working with DS. I think it can be a really powerful teaching tool, and am excited to explore some new uses of it this semester.
Greetings everyone,
My name is Margo Y. Melchor. I am a Clinical Assistant Professor at UTDB-School of Dental Hygiene and practicing Registered Dental Hygienist part-time in a General Dentistry office in River Oaks.
I also serve on the Executive Board of the national Hispanic Dental Association as the Vice President.
I am also in my last semester of the Medical Center Master's program-I am so excited!
Since the beginning of this graduate program, I have always been skeptical of the technology courses because I am a clinician and don't deal much with computers. Luckily, Dr. Robin has been wonderful about my anxiety of taking technology courses and I have survived-as well, as learned things I thought I never would have. The courses have also been quite informative especially since I have started doing power-point presentations for continuing education courses or lectures with our dental hygiene program.
DS was introduced early on in my graduate studies so I look forward to refreshing my memory on this form of technology and becoming reacquainted with it to use for future projects.
Hello, I am Yolanda Stiger. I am a teacher in Spring Branch ISD, and I am in my second semester of the Master's in Gifted Education.
I am excited to learn more about DS as I have never done it before.
I like the idea of having a work day where we can get together for a hands on session.
Hi! I'm Kristi Rutter. I teach 6th grade Language Arts in Klein ISD. We have a one-to-one Learning Management System that we are piloting for the district. What this means is that each student has a tablet laptop that we use as an integral learning tool. We don't have to worry about whether students have access to a computer, and with LMS, you can create, assess, link, etc. for lessons and assessments. We are incredibly lucky to have this opportunity, which brings me to why I am taking this course. I am working on my Doctorate in GT Education, and because we use Digital Storytelling in Klein, I thought what a perfect course! I'm very excited about this, and will have my students view our webpage. Most of them know more than I do! Sorry I was so late posting this...time got away from me.
